Mechanical Properties of Translucent Zirconia: An In Vitro Study

Background: The introduction of translucent zirconia has improved mimetics: nevertheless, a reduction in the mechanical performance was registered. study aim to investigate characteristics high-translucent used for monolithic restorations before and after aging process compared low-translucent zirconia. Methods: A total 23 specimens were present study. Group (n = 10) made Y-TZP; group B 7) Y-TZP finally C 6) an aged Y-TZP. Flexural strength, fracture toughness, brittleness, microcrack’s propagation grain size analyzed. Results: Vickers hardness was: 1483 ± 187 MPa (group C); 1102 392 A); 1284 32 B). flexural strength 440 (±96.2) 427 (±59.5) 805 (±198.4) toughness 5.1 (±0.7) MPa.m1/2 4.9 (±0.9) 8.9 (±1.1) brittleness 295 (±42.8) C), 230.9 (±46.4) A) 144.9 (±20.3) 2.75 (±1.2) µm2 0.16 (±0.05) B); 3.04 C). Conclusions: significant properties zirconia, traditional one, suggests their use anterior/lateral area (up premolars).
